DENTAL SURGERY DESIGN
High-end 3 surgery Wimpole Street squat practice!
Working in a listed building in a W1G London postcode is never without challenges! We partnered with our heritage consultant and a specialist architect as well as our usual architect to obtain LBC (listed building consent) and landlord approval for the project.
To obtain permission for the air-conditioning units, a separate application was submitted so this didn’t obstruct the works commencing. Pipework routes, airlines, fixing methods and false walls were all carefully considered to ensure the entire scheme was ‘reversible’ so the rooms could be returned to their original condition in future and that it didn’t harm any of the heritage assets within the rooms (cornices, joinery, fireplace etc). This added several challenges to the scheme but it received planning approval on its first application which was a testament to our design team’s expertise and experience!
BUILDING WORK
Our team completed all elements of the building work from construction, air-con, glass partitions, electrical installation, plumbing, flooring and specialist joinery. The principle dentist didn’t need to project manage the program as we took complete responsibility for all aspects.
Several site meetings were held to decide and choose on finishes, colours and bespoke joinery items. A custom made ‘solid surface’ desk and radiator covers were also included in the project.
The on-site project work took 10 weeks to complete from start on site to practical completion.
EQUIPMENT AND CABINETRY
Custom designed cabinetry was installed in 3 surgeries and the decontamination room following a several design meetings. The concept of having contrasting wall and base units give a high-end finish, without costing any more than usual!
Surgery 1 boasts a ‘top-of-the-range’ KaVo E80 vision chair, whilst surgeries 2 and 3 grace the KaVo E50 life. A knee break compact chair was used in surgery 2 due to space limitations. Cattani suction pumps and a compressor were selected for their reliability. Due to the limitation with wall fixing, the KaVo handheld x-ray machine was used and will be shared between 3 surgeries, also providing a cost saving!
The compressor was installed in an outdoor hut on a balcony!
Interior designers worked with our team to produce visuals of the space prior to commencement. This is a powerful tool to help the client visualise the result and plan the finishes and colour choices with an end result in mind. The interior design included implementing a track lighting system, ‘halo’ LED lights and crittall glass.
