PROJECT OVERVIEW

Dr Shakir Mughal owned a 2 surgery practice on the high street in Winslow, Milton Keynes. Access to the entrance was hidden from the high street and the reception area was cramped. When the opportunity to expand into the adjoining ground floor unit, with high street frontage, Shakir made the right decision and invested in the practice.

The project involved breaking through a structural wall into the new ground floor space to join two units together and reconfiguring the reception area.
A full refurbishment to the floors and walls throughout the communal area was completed, which included a staircase and landing area.

A new reception desk and feature walling was installed. An additional surgery was installed with bespoke cabinetry, a Belmont Voyager III chair, an 097 x-ray, a Durr VSA300S suction pump and a Cattani AC200 compressor. All reliable and proven equipment.

DESIGN

Simple but effective design techniques were used to give the practice a modern, fresh, spacious feel, without costing the earth!

A bespoke reception desk with LED lighting in the plinth graces the reception area and gives great first impressions. This really demonstrates the worth of investing in a quality, bespoke design dental reception desk.

The use of oak slat panelling has acoustic deadening properties, is cost-effective to install and provides a modern appearance. It can also be used to hide any wall blemishes and is very easily removed in future, when a refresh is required!

Simple colour schemes and design features such as wooden plank effect vinyl floor, white cabinetry and a bold colour chair have a timeless appeal and while enhancing the character of the old building, is still fresh, clean and bright.

PLANNING, BUILD, FIT-OUT & EQUIP!

We were involved in the project right from the start and assisted right throughout. Our one-stop-shop approach allowed Dr Mughal to keep focused on delivering dentistry and minimised the day-to-day distraction that project management can cause.

We phased the project in different stages to allow the practice to keep functioning and to minimise disruption to the staff and patients. This involved close liaison between the staff and our on-site team, and careful planning.

The main steps undertaken in any major refurbishment or surgery expansion project are:

1. Initial site and measured surveys
2. Project design
3. Building control drawing and submission
4. Scope and costing
5. Scheduling and planning
6. Building works
7. Dental fit-out
8. Snagging, commission, handovers and staff training
