DENTAL SURGERY DESIGN

Laurel Cottage Dental surgery is a delightful private practice located in Bovingdon in Hertfordshire. Dr Shah worked in a dated surgery which needed modernisation and improved working ergonomics. From our initial consultation, we worked closely together to develop a dental surgery design that re-orientated the surgery.

The room had a number of challenges such as low ceilings, two doors and it needed to serve both Dr Nix Shah (right handed) and Dr Arjun Shah (left handed).  We spent a few hours looking at the options before selecting the most suitable layout for optimum working. Several evening design meetings were held with Dr Shah to facilitate his busy schedule!

EQUIPMENT AND CABINETRY

Showroom visits followed the design work to select the best suited equipment and a Belmont Compass dental chair was chosen, along with the Belmont 900 LED track mounted light. The chair was chosen because of its ambidexterity and functionality.

The brief for the dental surgery cabinetry was to be sleek, modern and have a ‘wow-factor’. Push-to-open mechanisms were used so the fronts are ‘handle-free’ giving it a clean, uncluttered look. The solid surface worktop is beautifully seamless and LED lighting was run in the pelmet and plinths to give the room that fabulous ‘glow’!

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

The surgery was completely stripped, refurbished, decorated and reconfigured to suit the new layout which included chasing out the floor for a new suction pipe, and redoing the ceiling. For the duration of the project, we had to install an x-ray machine in the hygienist surgery so Dr Shah could continue seeing patients unaffected!

The finished result is an elegant, beautiful and charming surgery which functions very smoothly!
